I discovered Path Head Watermill a few yeas ago while walking past with my little dog and the place intrigued me. I always felt it would be lovely to be able to go in for a coffee, which you couldn’t at that time.
Winter opening hours – Saturdays and Sundays from 10.30am – 2.30pm. Last orders 2pm. Tearoom closing for winter on 17th December until around March 2024
The mill and grounds are run entirely by volunteers, who are involved in all aspects of the life of our special place: gardening, woodwork, operating the cafe, meeting-and-greeting, fundraising, erecting the marquees, building bridges, dry-stone walling, general maintenance, family activities, helping at events…
You don’t need to come every week, and you don’t need to have any special skills – if you want to help but don’t know what you could offer, just send us an email or give us a ring to arrange for an informal chat.

Hi I'm John … a retired Engineer and fell walker. I really enjoy working here, grass cutting and general maintenance. My fellow volunteers are so easy to work with and the craic is great fun.
In 2022 I took part in a well-being walk with Gateshead Art Diamonds at Path Head Watermill - I was completely delighted, it felt like falling in love! I've been coming to the Mill most Tuesdays since then.
