Yvonne leads a volunteer workshop in the grounds on the coldest day of the year!

Volunteers making Christmas wreaths from foraged materials

We used willow offshoots from the hedges and softened the fibres by working our way along them, repeatedly bending so they’d be supple enough to twine into a circle.  Then Yvonne showed us how to select vegetation in a way that wouldn’t harm the plant or tree, particularly important in such cold conditions.  We used ivy that had already been cut by our gardeners and evergreen sprigs, with berries and cuttings of dried herbs, ending up with wreaths that not only looked lovely, natural and pagan, but can be refreshed and smell divine!
