Denise's Story

In 2022 I took part in a well-being walk with Gateshead Art Diamonds at Path Head Watermill - I was completely delighted, it felt like falling in love! I've been coming to the Mill most Tuesdays since then.

I grew up in the Loxley Valley in Sheffield, surrounded by water mills which had generated power for the early cutlery and steel industries. I’m an NHS retiree, a keen gardener and artist/sculptor.

In 2022 I took part in a well-being walk with Gateshead Art Diamonds at Path Head Watermill – I was completely delighted, it felt like falling in love! I’ve been coming to the Mill most Tuesdays since then.

I’ve been helping to do landscaping and other outdoor jobs, including painting bridges and fences made by other volunteers.

Everyone seems to love the place too and it’s been great to meet a variety of new people..

I decided to volunteer as the focus was on developing the mill as a community resource and for people to learn about the history of this area. It's a great place to spend a day - lovely grounds, a peaceful and relaxing place to be.

Hi I'm John … a retired Engineer and fell walker. I really enjoy working here, grass cutting and general maintenance. My fellow volunteers are so easy to work with and the craic is great fun.

I discovered Path Head Watermill a few yeas ago while walking past with my little dog and the place intrigued me. I always felt it would be lovely to be able to go in for a coffee, which you couldn’t at that time.
